DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL
ENGINEERING
Historical Beginning
Keeping in view the role and scope of the farm
mechanization in Indian Agriculture and the technical personnel required for
the same, the Department in Agricultural Engineering was established in this
institute with the start of the 3 -year Diploma course in Agricultural
Engineering in 1985 with an intake of 20 students.
Agricultural Engg. is concerned with the practical
applications of scientific knowledge in the production & utilization of
agricultural machinery and application of engineering principles in the
development of the agriculture and related fields for the overall development
of the nation and society with special emphasis on the rural development.e. It
is truly a multi-disciplinary course.
The main objective of this department is to impart
training in the field of Agricultural Engineering to prepare the competent
& skilled personnel to face the present challenges in this field.
At present, Govt. Polytechnic,
Sirsa is the only institute in Haryana offering three years diploma course in
Agricultural Engg.
Main Areas/Fields of Agricultural Engg.
In addition to the subjects relating to Basic
Sciences, Basic Engg. & Agricultural Sciences, the main subjects of
Agricultural Engg are:
1. Farm Power & Machinery
2. Soil & water Conservation
3. Agricultural Processing & Post Harvest Technology
FACILITIES
Agriculture Engg. Deptt. has the following
laboratories well equipped with tractors, agricultural machines and other
scientific & modern apparatus to impart the proper training.

4 Non -Conventional Energy Sources
In addition visits to different
industries/institutions/ fields e.g. tractor industries, processing plants,
agricultural universities soil & water conservation projects are arranged
time to time, so as to give the students a sufficient exposure to the latest
developments in the field of agriculture and update their knowledge.
The students are also sent to N.R.F.M.T. & T.I.
Hisar for one-month practical training after examinations of 4th semester.
In final year, the students have to undergo
one-semester in-plant training in the related industries during the sixth
semester of their study. It plays an important role in the overall personality
development of the students and enhances the scope of wage employment and
motivates the students to opt for the self-employment by developing and
generating entrepreneurial traits in the students besides promoting technical
skills.
The Diploma holders in Agricultural Engineering
have good employment opportunities in private sectors/self employment are
better than the public sectors.
